This motorcycle tour in Spain was specifically designed for a group of Scottish riders as a pre-season warm up during March 2018. The tour visits many places of interest and quaint villages better still riding in Spain at this time of year usually means good weather that is not too hot or too cold for biking. Naturally we travel through wonderful countryside on roads with great curves and twists.
Daily routes are relatively relaxed and range in distance between 200 km / 120 miles and 320 km / 200 miles each day with about 4.5 to 6 hours spent in the saddle and the remainder of the day occupied eating and taking refreshments.
Cost Variations
The price listed asumes arrival on Thursday Evening returning Sunday night. Riding all day Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday. Persons arriving before Thursday and/or leaving after Sunday will incur additional nights stay at the hotel costing €120 per night single or €145 per couple
The average mororcycle hire is €119 per day. A range of bikes are available some lower price and some higher. The price will adjust accordingly. See list of available machines below.
Riding Format
One of our Guide's will lead the group and another Guide will tail the group. The Lead Guide will set a pace that is within the speed limit for the road and deemed appropriate. This guide will monitor as best as possible the riders following and will reduce the pace if the group is becoming dispersed. The Tail Guide will always be at the back of the group, so, matter who stops to take photographs etc. there will always be a guide there to point them in the right direction.
At junctions, we will endeavour to use a drop off system whereby the Lead Guide will gesture to the Second Rider in the group to stop at a safe that is visible for others approaching and near the junction and point the other riders in the group to the change in direction. When the dropped off riders sees the Tail Guide approaching the junction he should pull out in front of the Guide to become the Second Last Rider in the group. Some groups find this system easier than others but I’m sure you will quickly pick it up if you have not adopted this method before.

Antequera, El Chorro, El Mirador, Campillos, Bobadilla 123 km (circa 77 miles and 3 hours riding)
This route is ideal for a first day because there can occasionally be delays is getting all the paperwork for motorcycle hire sorted and until this is complete for all riders in the group we cannot get under way. The short distance is none the less challenging in areas and there are several beauty spots along the way where riders will want to stop and take pictures so progress may be slow at times.
Leaving Antequera we head along mainly single-track roads to El Chorro (translated to English this means the Spurt). There is a small village here but the area is most famed among rock climbers who favour Desfiladero de los Gaitanes and the infamous walkway called Caminito del Rey which is the access route to a hydro-electric plant. Shortly after passing through the gorge at El Chorro we shall arrive at Restaurante El Mirador Ardales where we break for lunch. This picturesque spot is where three reservoirs meet and the food is good especially if you like chargrilled beef.
After lunch, we circle around one of the reservoirs by heading west then north and finally east to reach Huerta la Cueva where we deviate back towards Campillios and pass through the Lagunas de Campillios to Bobadilla-Estacion and back to the hotel in Antequera.
Please note we often extend this route depending on the progress being made and may run it in reverse or split onto groups where one heads in the direction describes and the other in reverse will all regrouping for lunch and again at the hotel.

Antequera, Seratto, ElBurgo, Ronda, Zahara 283 km (about 177 miles and 5.5 hours riding)
We depart our hotel in Antequera destined for Seratto then take a great road with lots of twists and fantastic views as we head towards to El Burgo where we shall take a refreshment break.
The road to Ronda, via Setenil de las Bodegas, where we break briefly for photographs at the Puente Nuevo and Bullring will not disappoint, but the next section of road as we ride to Grazalema and onward to our lunch break stop at Zahara will certainly impress all riders. The elevated position at Mirador Puerto De Las Palomas looking down to Embalse de Zahara el Gastor is outstanding and the view from Zahara isnt bad either.
We break for lunch at Zahara and make our return journey via La Muela, Olvera and Campillos where we deviate to the north riding past Laguna de Fuente de Piedra before turning south again to return to our hotel.

Antequera, Embalse de la Vinuela, Embalse de los Bermejales, Granada, Loja 270 km (circa 170 miles and 4 hours riding)
Today we head east visiting two reservoirs (Embalse de la Vinuela and Embalse de los Bermejales) en route to Granada. Depending upon the desires of the group and the weather we may make a visit to The Alhambra Palace. The queues can be large and so viewing the palace can to time consuming. This is particularly tiring in heat when wearing bike gear, added to that those flying home today may have time constraints and so this visit is not what some will want to do. For those who do the palace is well worth a visit.
The Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Moors in 889 as a fortress upon an earlier Roman fortification. It was converted into a Royal Palace in 1333 by the Sultan of Granada. It was later commandeered by the Christians in 1492 and became the court of Ferdinand and Isabella. It continued to be adapted and extended by various royal families over the following centuries. It has been described as "a pearl set in emeralds" and "paradise on earth" so, as you might appreciate there is much to see and so a visit cannot be hurried.
The route back to Antequera is mainly along the A-92 a dual carrageway where rapid progress can be made back to the hotel.
Those who are staying longer or in no great rush to be back at the hotel will take the route via Zagra to Iznajar crossing another lake/reservoir and passing through pretty farmland or their return journey.
