With tour members arriving at various times and some likely to be weary after their long flights, nothing is planned today, so, sit back, relax and unwind.
If you happen to be bursting with energy then take a look at the suggested tourist route for tomorrow and consider if there are things suggested that you would rather do today.
The arena in the photo is the Panathenaic Stadium (also known as Kallimarmaro) in Athens, Greece. It is a historic marble stadium originally built in ancient times for the Panathenaic Games and later reconstructed for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. It is notable for being the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble and is a major landmark in Athens.
Your accommodation for the next two nights is a 4-Star rated hotel overlooking the National Garden in central Athens. This peaceful oasis in the heart of the city, located just behind the Greek Parliament building at Syntagma Square, is around 15 hectares and offers a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of Athens, with shaded pathways, lush greenery, and a variety of plants and trees from around the world.
The garden was commissioned by Queen Amalia in the 19th century and has over 500 species of plants, as well as small animals and birds, making it a haven for nature lovers. There is an Archaeological Site of the Lyceum of Aristotle, Roman Ruins and Mosaics, together with a Temple to the Unknown Soldier. So, plenty there to help you unwind from your flight and prepare for the ride ahead.
Across the park you will find Panathenaic Stadium, one of Athens' most iconic landmarks and a unique monument in the world of sports and history. Originally constructed in the 4th century BCE for the Panathenaic Games, it was rebuilt in marble by Herodes Atticus in the 2nd century CE. After centuries of decline, the stadium was restored in the late 19th century to host the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, making it the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble and the only one to have hosted the Olympics three times.

Athens Sightseeing
Athens, the cradle of Western civilization, offers an incredible mix of ancient history and vibrant modern culture, making it difficult to decide what to see and do when time is limited. Here is a suggested day sightseeing:
You could start your journey at the Acropolis, the city’s most iconic landmark. Here, you’ll find the majestic Parthenon, a temple dedicated to Athena, and other ancient structures like the Erechtheion and Temple of Athena Nike. From the hilltop, enjoy sweeping views of the city below. Whilst in that area also visit the Acropolis Museum, which is just a short walk away. This modern museum houses fascinating artifacts from the site, providing context to the ruins you’ve just seen.
Next, stroll through Plaka, Athens' oldest neighborhood. Its narrow streets, neoclassical architecture, and charming cafes make it an ideal spot for lunch and a taste of traditional Greek cuisine.
For those interested in history beyond antiquity, visit Syntagma Square to witness the ceremonial changing of the guard at the Hellenic Parliament. Nearby, the National Garden offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city streets. If time allows, explore the Ancient Agora, once the heart of Athenian public life, where philosophers like Socrates once walked.
End your day at Lycabettus Hill, the highest point in Athens. Whether you hike or take the funicular, the panoramic sunset views over the city and the Aegean Sea are unforgettable. Athens to Loutra Aidipsou ~ 230km / 144miles ~ 5 hours riding
After a 30 minut taxi journey from our Hotel in Athens to the motorcycle hire facility, just east of Athens, the scenic ride begins as we leave the rental agents in Pikermi, and quickly immerses you in the rolling countryside of Attica. Heading north along Leoforos Marathonos, the route passes through areas steeped in history before climbing towards Penteli, where winding roads and pine-covered slopes offer sweeping views back toward the city and the Aegean Sea.
Continuing north, we skirt the edge of Mount Penteli, then ride through tranquil villages en route to Tatoi Estate, once the summer residence of Greek royalty. The roads here are a motorcyclist’s delight with gentle curves, shaded stretches, and glimpses of stately ruins amid lush greenery.
From Tatoi, the route turns northwest toward Chalkida, crossing into the island of Euboea (also known as Evia) via its famous bridge. Chalkida’s waterfront makes a great stop for refreshment break, with views of the tidal currents that have fascinated visitors for centuries. After a break, the ride continues along the Istiaia–Chalkida road, hugging the coastline and offering spectacular sea vistas on one side and through the forested hills of Kireas a National Park (Πλατανοδάσος Κηρέα).
As we push further north, the scenery becomes increasingly rugged and remote. The road winds through charming villages and olive groves before reaching Oreoi, a quiet town near the northern tip of the island. The final stretch leads to Loutra Edipsou, renowned for its thermal springs and relaxing seaside atmosphere, a perfect spot to unwind after a rewarding day’s ride.

Loura Aidipsou to Meteora ~ 265km / 165 miles ~ 5 hours riding
There are many ferries we could use to leave the Island of Euboea. The one we opt for begins on the northern coast of Euboea, where riders take the short ferry crossing from Agiokampos to Glifa on the mainland. The crossing itself is a pleasant interlude, offering views of the sparkling Aegean and the rugged coastline. Once ashore, the route heads west toward Lamia, a bustling town at the foot of Mount Oeta. It’s an ideal spot for a refreshment break before tackling the next leg of the ride.
From Lamia, the road winds through fertile plains and gradually climbs into the mountains of Thessaly. The destination for lunch is Lake Plastira, a stunning artificial lake surrounded by forested hills. The ride here offers smooth curves, panoramic vistas, and crisp mountain air. For those who enjoy a short hike, an elevated viewpoint offers breathtaking views across the lake and its emerald waters, making it a highlight of the day.
After lunch, the route continues northwest toward Meteora, one of Greece’s most awe-inspiring landscapes. Towering rock pillars rise dramatically from the plain, crowned by centuries-old monasteries that seem to defy gravity. Meteora to Samarina ~ 265km / 165 miles ~ 6 hours riding
As we depart the towering rock formations and monasteries or Meteora, this route quickly leaves the plains behind and heads into the rugged beauty of Pindus National Park. The initial stretch toward Metsovo follows sweeping mountain roads, offering spectacular views of deep valleys and forested slopes. Metsovo itself is a charming alpine town, known for its traditional architecture and local cheeses making it a great spot for a short break.
From here, the ride becomes even more exhilarating as you enter Zagori, a region famed for its stone villages and arched bridges. The road twists through Anatoliko Zagori and Fragkades, where every bend reveals a new panorama of dramatic peaks and verdant forests. This is pure motorcycling bliss: smooth tarmac, light traffic, and nature at its most pristine.
One highlight along the way is the Bridge of Plakidas, an elegant stone structure spanning a crystal-clear river making another perfect photo stop in this area that is steeped in history. Continuing deeper into the park, the route climbs toward Distrato, where the air grows cooler and the scenery more remote.
The final destination is Samarina, one of Greece’s highest villages, nestled at over 1,600 meters in the Grevena mountain region. Surrounded by towering pines and alpine meadows, it’s an idyllic place to end the day, with hearty mountain cuisine waiting to welcome riders and a 4-star family run hotel on the edge of town yet only a 5 minute walk to the town centre.

Samarina to Ohrid ~ 165km / 166 miles ~ 5.5 hours riding
We depart Samarina to begin our journey into North Macedonia and we shall end this day crossing another border as we enter Albania.
Surrounded by alpine meadows and dense pine forests, the departure offers crisp mountain air and sweeping views that should offer an invigorating start to the day. The route heads northwest toward Nestorio, following roads that twist through rugged terrain and deep valleys, perfect for riders who enjoy technical curves and dramatic scenery.
From Nestorio, the journey continues to Kastoria, a lakeside town renowned for its Byzantine heritage and fur trade. The approach to Kastoria is stunning, with the road skirting the shores of Lake Orestiada, reflecting the surrounding hills and traditional mansions. This is an ideal spot for a coffee break or a stroll along the waterfront before pressing on.
Next, the route climbs gently toward Florina, passing through fertile plains and forested hills. Florina’s vibrant town center offers another opportunity to pause and soak up local culture before the ride takes a more adventurous turn as we cross the border into North Macedonia. The transition is seamless, and soon you’re riding along scenic roads along the shore of Lake Prespes where we take our final refreshment stop of the day.
The final stretch offers breathtaking views as we make our way to along the eastern shore of Lake Ohrid, one of Europe’s oldest and deepest lakes. Ohrid is often called the "Jerusalem of the Balkans" because of its rich religious heritage, historically, it had 365 churches, one for each day of the year! The 4-star lakeside hotel is a perfect place to end the day, with its relaxed atmosphere, lakeside promenades, and excellent local cuisine.

Ohrid to Pogradec ~ 283km / 177 miles ~ 5 hours riding
Today we take a scenic route through North Macedonia and into Albania. The route offers an unforgettable blend of lakeside beauty, mountain passes, and cultural charm. We depart Ohrid riding along winding roads that hugging the lake’s edge on one side and rugged hills on the other to the northern end of the lake then head to the hills!
Travelling north toward Kichevo, the road begins to climb gently through rolling countryside dotted with small villages. The ride is smooth and flowing, ideal for enjoying the rhythm of the bike while taking in panoramic views of fertile valleys and forested slopes. From Kichevo, the route turns toward Gostivar, where the terrain becomes more dramatic. Here, the mountains rise sharply, and the road twists and curves through narrow passes, offering thrilling bends and elevation changes that will delight any motorcyclist.
Continuing toward Lakavica, you’ll experience a mix of open stretches and technical sections, with glimpses of traditional Macedonian life along the way. Soon after, the journey reaches Mavrovo, a highlight of the trip. Nestled within Mavrovo National Park, this area is famed for its alpine scenery, deep forests, and the tranquil Mavrovo Lake. The crisp mountain air and sweeping vistas make this a perfect spot for a break and some photos.
From Mavrovo, the route heads southwest through Centar Zhupa, following quieter roads that meander through rural landscapes, there is a ruined Monastery, Metochion of Archangel Gabriel, and a memorial to fallen soldiers that we pass before crossing into Albania. The final leg brings you to Pogradec, a charming lakeside town on the Albanian shore of Lake Ohrid. Here, you can relax by the water, savor local cuisine, and reflect on a day filled with diverse scenery and exhilarating riding.

Pogradec To Orikum ~ 256km / 160 miles ~ 6 hours riding
Shortly after departing Pogradec, we enter a narrow valley where the road runs alongside a river, flanked by steep slopes on both sides. This section demands extra caution, as the gradients are sharp and the poorly surfaced road twist through tight bends without protective barriers. Eventually, the surface improves as we approach a hydroelectric plant under construction, and from here, smooth tarmac continues for several miles until we reach Moglice, the perfect spot for a morning coffee break.
Continuing west, the journey reaches Berat, one of Albania's most iconic cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known as the "City of a Thousand Windows" Berat is famous for its white Ottoman houses cascading down the hillside and its imposing castle overlooking the Osum River. It's an ideal spot for lunch and a short stroll through its historic streets.
From Berat, the route heads toward Apollonia Archaeological Park, an ancient Greek city founded in the 6th century BCE. This site offers a fascinating glimpse into Albania's classical past, with ruins scattered across rolling hills, a perfect cultural interlude before returning to the road.
The final leg leads to Orikum, a coastal town near Vlora, where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas meet. The approach to Orikum is breathtaking, as the road descends from inland hills to reveal sweeping views of turquoise waters and rugged coastline. This area is known for its beaches and relaxed atmosphere, making it an excellent place to end the day with a seaside meal and sunset views.

Orikum to Igoumenitsa ~ 250km / 155 miles ~ 5 hours riding
This unforgettable ride departs Orikum and retraces the SH4 offers sweeping views of the Albanian Riviera, with turquoise waters on one side and rugged hills on the other, a perfect start for riders who love coastal scenery.
Turning inland, the route climbs through rolling hills toward Mallakastër, crossing the Vjoska rover at Peshkepi, then continues south to Gjirokaster, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known as the "City of Stone" Gjirokaster is famous for its Ottoman-era architecture and imposing hilltop castle. It’s an ideal stop for coffee or lunch, with cobbled streets and panoramic views that transport you back in time.
From Gjirokaster, the journey heads toward Syri i Kaltër (the Blue Eye), a natural spring of astonishing clarity and color. Surrounded by lush greenery, this spot is a must-see for its vibrant turquoise waters, a short detour that rewards riders with one of Albania’s most beautiful natural wonders.
Continuing south, the route reaches Butrint National Park, another UNESCO site steeped in history. Here, ancient ruins from Greek, Roman, and Byzantine eras lie amid tranquil wetlands, offering a fascinating cultural interlude before the final leg of the ride.
The road then hugs the Albanian coastline crossing into Greece and we make our way to Igoumenitsa. This stretch is pure motorcycling bliss, with smooth asphalt, gentle curves, and constant sea views. Igoumenitsa, a bustling port city, marks the end of the day's adventure and serves as a gateway to the Ionian Islands for our journey on Curfu.

Corfo circuit ~ 225km / 140 miles ~ 6 hours travel
This journey begins by boarding the ferry from Igoumenitsa to Corfu. It is an experience in itself crossing the Ionian Sea with views of emerald islands and distant mountains. The crossing typically takes about an hour, offering time to relax and enjoy the sparkling waters before arriving at Corfu Town.
Corfu Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famed for its Venetian architecture, narrow alleys, and lively squares. Riders can take a short stroll through the old town or enjoy a tea or coffee before heading north along the island’s scenic coastal roads. The route leads to Kassiopi, a charming fishing village with a picturesque harbor and views across to Albania. It's a great spot for a photo stop or a light refreshment.
From Kassiopi, the road climbs toward Old Perithia, Corfu's oldest surviving village, nestled on the slopes of Mount Pantokrator. This atmospheric hamlet, with its stone houses and quiet lanes, offers a glimpse into the island's past. Continuing upward, the route reaches the Monastery of Pantokrator, perched near the summit of Corfu's highest peak. The panoramic views from here are breathtaking, stretching across the island and the Ionian Sea.
Descending westward, we reach Angelokastro, a Byzantine fortress dramatically perched on a rocky outcrop above the sea. Further south, a stop at the Kaiser’s Observatory near Gastouri provides another stunning viewpoint, before continuing toward Achilleion Palace, built by Empress Elisabeth of Austria.
The final leg heads to Lefkimmi, a tranquil town in southern Corfu known for its traditional charm and proximity to sandy beaches. From here, riders return to Igoumenitsa by ferry, completing a circuit that combines coastal beauty, mountain roads, and cultural treasures.

Igoumenitsa to Lake Trichonida ~ 265km / 165 miles ~ 5 hours riding
This route features many lakes. We leave Igoumenitsa lively port to head inland toward the mountains of Epirus. The first leg takes you to Ioannina, a historic lakeside city nestled beside Lake Pamvotida. The approach is stunning, with winding roads offering glimpses of the shimmering lake and the surrounding peaks. Ioannina is an excellent spot for a coffee break, with its vibrant old town, Ottoman architecture, and lakeside promenade.
Leaving Ioannina, the route turns south toward Arta, following roads that weave through verdant valleys and rolling hills. This section offers gentle curves, and panoramic views of rural Greece. Arta itself is steeped in history, famous for its iconic stone bridge spanning the Arachthos River and its Byzantine monuments. It's worth a short stop to admire the bridge and soak up the town’s relaxed atmosphere.
From Arta, the journey continues southeast toward Lake Trichonida, Greece's largest natural lake. The approach to Trichonida is breathtaking, as the road descends through fertile plains and olive groves before revealing the vast expanse of water framed by distant mountains. This tranquil setting is perfect stop. Our hotel is a nice family run 4-star which great food, but before dinner you can enjoy the views or take a short walk along the lakeshore.

Lake Trichonida to Sparta ~ 368km / 230 Miles ~ 7 hours riding
The last day of this tour is designed to be memorable, with a longer-than-usual ride totaling around 230 miles and an estimated 7+ hours in the saddle. Departing from the tranquil shores of Lake Trichonida, the route heads east into the mountains, offering sweeping views and flowing roads as you climb toward one of Greece’s most iconic sites at Delphi. Known as the "navel of the ancient world," Delphi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where riders can pause to explore the archaeological ruins and enjoy the dramatic setting on the slopes of Mount Parnassus.
From Delphi, the journey continues through rugged terrain to the Hosios Loukas Monastery, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture and another UNESCO-listed gem. Its golden mosaics and serene courtyards provide a cultural highlight and a welcome break before pressing on toward Thiva (Thebes), a city steeped in mythological history. This section of the ride combines mountain curves with open plains, offering variety and plenty of opportunities to stretch and refresh.
The final leg leads toward Spata, near Athens Airport, where the tour concludes. This route is demanding but rewarding, blending archaeological wonders, historic landmarks, and scenic mountain roads, a fitting finale for an epic adventure.
We can take a vote on the day, because for those preferring a shorter option, there's an alternative coastal route of about 180 miles, taking roughly 6 hours. This path crosses the impressive Rio–Antirrio Bridge, then follows the southern shores of the Gulf of Corinth, offering stunning sea views and a more relaxed ride. Passing through Corinth, riders can glimpse the famous canal before continuing toward Spata.
Whether you choose the cultural mountain route or the scenic coastal alternative, this final day delivers a perfect mix of history, beauty, and riding pleasure, a grand conclusion to an unforgettable journey through Greece, North Macedonia and Albania.

Homeward bound
We return our bikes then make our way to the airport for our homeward flights, although some might prefer to extend their stay and do some further exploration perhaps of the Greek Islands. Within easy reach are islands such as:
- Aegina - famous for its pistachios, charming harbor, and the impressive Temple of Aphaia, which rivals the Parthenon in beauty. The island is abundant in Neoclassical architecture, seaside tavernas, and quick access for a relaxing day trip.
- Hydra - A car-free island with cobblestone streets and elegant mansions. Known for its artistic vibe and preserved architecture. You will see horse-drawn carriages, boutique cafes, and enjoy stunning sea views.
- Poros - A lush island with pine forests and sandy beaches, ideal for a laid-back escape. The features include a Clock Tower viewpoint, waterfront dining, and calm swimming spots.
- Spetses - Historic charm combined with cosmopolitan flair. Known for its role in the Greek War of Independence.
The island offers elegant mansions, horse-drawn carriages, and vibrant nightlife.
There are of course many more that would need more than a day trip to visit and explore.
